The Collaro Audio Triscription Turntable Weight

Description

The Collaro Triscription record stabiliser is a medium mass device which is carefully made in England using 3D printing techniques and technology derived from research carried out in the 1990s aimed at isolating a computer hard drive from the vibration spectrum of a hovering military helicopter. The design utilises these techniques. Working in a similar way, the mass is suspended on three compressible polymer towers, which sit on point-contact stainless steel balls to provide a rigid path for low frequency noise within the system.

In use on a large direct drive transcription deck and on a heavy idler drive turntable we noticed a 'clearing up' or tightening of low frequency information, drums, leading edges of bass instruments and clearer piano notes. The unit weighs 325g and requires this mass to work correctly, so it is not suitable for suspended chassis decks with compliant springs*. Designed with the Collaro Precision or Tempest mats in mind, it also works exceptionally well with raised-point mats from other manufacturers. The manufacturing process allows us to make use of a plastic which is biodegradable at end of life and metal components re-useable or recyclable.

We recommend the Triscription on the following types of turntable:

  • All heavy idler drive transcription decks by Garrard, Thorens, Lenco, Sugden and those built along the lines of the above.
  • All direct drive transcription and broadcast units, such as Technics SP10 and similar.
  • Belt drive non-suspended or semi suspended decks such as the Linn Axis, Linn Basik, earlier Rega Planar 2 and 3. Transcriptors, Pink Triangle LPT and Michell.
  • Very Early Linn LP12 and Ariston RD11 with silver low compliance springs.*

*We do not recommend that it is used on a suspended chassis turntable with very compliant suspension such as the Linn LP12 and TD150.

The Collaro Audio Triscription record stabiliser is available in Charcoal or Café au lait, recalling the livery of the classic Collaro transcription decks of the 1950s.
